After all, BMW M cars are laden with excellent driving attributes that allow them to tackle any challenges on the track. All of BMW M’s Safety Cars are particularly modified at its factory for them to serve as the perfect lead cars on motorcycle races.

The latest iteration of these safety cars is the BMW M2 MotoGP Safety Car, which is set to debut this season. BMW M and MotoGP have been close partners for nearly two decades. BMW M has been a symbol of high-performance driving as well as motorsport-inspired piloting.

On the other hand, MotoGP is considered as the peak of motorcycle racing, and is home to the best motorcycle riders racing on high-performance prototypes. Since 1999, BMW M has been a part of the global MotoGP community.

The close relationship between MotoGP organizer Dorna Sports and BMW has been progressing at a steady pace, and is seen to continue further into the future. In fact, Dorna Sports and BMW M Division in 2014 inked an agreement to extend their partnership until 2020.

To note, this kind of long-term close partnership is very unusual in any global sport. Aside from providing Safety Cars to MotoGP, BMW M Division has been showing its strong commitment to MotoGP in other arenas. For instance, since 2003, MotoGP has been giving the BMW M Award – usually at the end of the season — to the best qualifier.
