Super Nakeds – 2021 First Ride & Review

Super Nakeds – 2021

Super Nakeds – 2021 So typically, I don’t cover sports bikes, and super Nick is on the channel. Most of my writing is on the road. I feel like you got to take a bike like this to the track if you’re going to find its limits and be able to explore its strengths and weaknesses, but what happened was I had an 890 Adventure from KTM. I wanted to swap it for a 1290 Super adventure to do a bit of a back-to-back. They didn’t have one available for a straight swap, but they did have a SuperSU car, so they said, what do you take this for a week? Please bring it back and get the super adventure. Now come on. I’m not an idiot, even though I don’t typically cover this type of bike on the channel. I’m not going to say no.

I’m I say Here we are a week later. And I’ve got to say. It is pretty damn good. I’d argue the 890 is a better sort of dedicated road bike or is a better choice if you’re doing more road riding for a bunch of reasons. But come on, I’ve had a good time having so in this video just before I drop it back with KTM. Today, I’ll go through some of the reasons why I thoroughly enjoyed myself. But before we get started, a massive thanks to Pando Moto, they send out all my gear like mad riding jeans. I’ve got three pairs. These are the Rabi arm that they recently sent me out.

They also gave me this bomber jacket; you’ll notice bits of gear that I’m always wearing now.

but I just wanted to thank them for all their support and support for the channel. There are links in the description to some of the products.

Now look, I’m not too proud to change my mind on certain things. And I’ve said in previous videos like the 390 adventure, adventure that I’m not a massive fan of the aesthetic style of KTM bikes, but if there’s a time and a place for an orange paint job, and a proper kind of bold, modern, edgy looks, then it’s got to be the super naked segment. I think this is an incredible-looking bike; there are loads of great touches all over it. And it all combines for something that truly suits the kind of nature of the motorcycle and the Beast, they call it, and it looks like a beast.

I mean, starting down here, one of my favorite features is the way that the exhaust headers run kind of horizontal along the bottom, a beautiful feature—no need to cover them up with like a belly pan or something. I’m sure plenty of people swap them out. But you also get a nice roll from the airbox as well. So even in stock form, it’s reasonably satisfying.

I also love a single-sided swingarm. I think that looks beautiful on this bike Super Nakeds .

And I liked that individual orange spoke absolutely no functional reason for that, but it looks great. The tail section is nice and short and pitched up, and I love this split seat. This bike also comes in like a black paint job, but I go for this bright orange and blue. And I specifically really like this particular shade of blue. It’s got a lovely, classy matte finish to it. The trellis frame is a nice feature.

And they’ve highlighted that again with that orange finish. And I think one of my most minor favorite things about the 390 adventure and 890 Adventure is possibly the headlight. It just doesn’t work on an adventure-style bike from my taste, but it has to be the perfect front end for an aggressive sports naked. Now they did say there are some performance reasons for it. But I also love how the air intake is in that slit down the middle of the headlights.

And another neat touch is that the TFT dash is kind of on the handlebar clamp, so it means it’s pulled much further towards you. That gives it an immaculate profile from the side. So other bikes, you’ll see it stuck out a little bit, but you’ve just got a clean sloping front end on this bike, and it just looks super aggressive. It’s not really in your peripheral view. But honestly, who’s looking at the speeder on a bike like this?

The thing got me eating words bit on this bike and the quality of the fit and finish.

So I said that the 890 Adventure didn’t feel as premium as something like an F 850 gs or a tiger 900, which are similarly priced bikes but have a bit more refined finish, and stuff like the switches feels less plasticky on those other bikes this. However, they’ve used entirely different buttons for the switchgear, and I love what they’ve done with them. There’s a tremendous directional pad here on the left-hand switch gears and navigate all the menus on the dash.

There are also some proper chunky cruise control buttons. There’s a trigger on the back and a thumb button on the front here, so nudging the speed up and down by one mile per hour is super easy. You don’t need to look down for where the button is. It’s keyless, and there’s a lock button that makes the steering lock seamless and easy to use.

So the grips, the leavers, even the hydraulic clutch contributes to that. I am feeling quality as well. Footpegs seat mirror, all of those things that affect your writing experience, feel nicely done, and all those little visual touches about and the quality of the dash. It all combines for something that does feel like a 15-gram bike.

Now look, one of the problems with testing out super naked and sports bikes on the road is that you can’t push the engine. They tend to be a bit more ready. And so to experience what they’re like at peak power, you have to get up to like eight 9000 revs. And even in second gear, you’re starting to do 70 and 80.

Given that this is my profession Super Nakeds

I can’t be filming myself doing that sort of thing regularly and then uploading it to YouTube for everyone to see. So you know, I’ve got to stick to the moderate speeds for a lot of the writing that I’m doing. And some of the bytes can feel gutless or underwhelming down at those road speeds. They’re not built for it a lot of the time, made for going much quicker on the track. This bike, however, because it’s a big 1300 cc v twin, there’s loads of torque, so it’s got plenty of mid-range, and it’s just, it’s brilliant to ride on the road.

Don’t get me wrong, like peak power is bonkers. So it does have a proper super naked top end. But peak torque is 140 Newton meters down at 8000 revs, and 86% of that torque they say, so 120 Newton meters is available from just over 4000 revs. The result is smooth; that sounds incredible. That’s grunty. And it just feels effortless, pretty much up through the rev range.

There’s a bit more riding footage on my other channel. So check that out. I’m sure you can tell I enjoyed it. Now I think it helps to read a few items back to back recently, but I’m getting to grips with the screen with the interface, and I love how. The super duke is especially easy to navigate because of that excellent directional pad on the left switchgear that I mentioned earlier. But also love how the graphics are immaculate in their design, looking down at the speed and your revs. It’s just easy to interpret a glance, and then the menus are laid out. There’s no kind of flashiness to them. They’re logical, easy, and intuitive to go through and change the settings while you’re on the move.

I also talked a bit about the keyless system on this bike.

And I think it’s one of the best I’ve used so far. I used to find it annoying because sometimes you’d have to get the key out to do the steering lock or the filler cap. And you think, Well, what’s the point if I’m using the key anyway, but on this bike, it’s all integrated nicely. The lock button is the same button that you use to switch the cycle on and off. So it’s just super simple. No problems with the filler copy; that is just really nicely done.

Have I made use of all the light riding modes and track modes, and rider rates?

Not really. I’ve had it for a week. I’ve been on the road, and it’s been pretty wet and miserable. So I’ve just been riding it in road mode, just enjoying it and not getting too crazy, but there are loads to go out there as well. I will say the quick shifter, though, is excellent, super crisp, totally precise.

And really, you never get any like missed shifts or anything below the way that I had some of the joy of riding this bike on the road is absolute effortlessness. I’ve already talked about all that talk the engine has done, and then it just carries on right up to the top end. The gearbox feels super precise and accurate.

The hydraulic clutch has a great feeling when you need to use it, and you get top-spec WP Apex suspension. So a 48 mil fully adjustable upside-down fork fully adjustable shock as well. You’ve got a friendly preload adjuster on the side here, so no need for tools, and it does have a new linkage designed for this 2020 year model, which they say added a bit of ride comfort. It does feel pretty comfy for a sporty, aggressive bike.

I’ve done a couple of long days on it and no problems at all.

And in terms of handling, it’ll just go where you point it brings a Brembo style as at the front, you’ve got a radial master cylinder here from Brembo as well more than enough power for the road, and then you’ve reached all the electronic age that you could wish for.

So like I say for quicker road riding. It’ll do absolutely anything you want it to, and it won’t feel like it’s struggling at all in any department, as for any drawbacks. Well, the quick shifter is an optional accessory. You might expect it to be as standard on a bike like this, and like any super naked, it’s not a great deal of fun on the motorway despite having cruise control as standard.
